Grooming a pet includes various aspects of care, such as bathing, brushing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and more.
For certain breeds suitable for haircuts, that includes trimming and full body styling.
For pets that do not require clipping, most grooming tasks can be done without clippers.
However, for pets that require minimal trimming, such as trimming hygienic areas and foot pads, clippers are the safest choice and highly recommended.
Trimming without clippers: what are the options?
For breeds that do require full clipping but where you prefer to trim without clippers, there are two main options:
- Girth trimming: This type of trimming, as you would see on a show Maltese, is performed with shears to emphasize the dog’s silhouette and make the coat float above the ground.
- Full clipping: It is possible to trim the dog’s coat all over the body with shears, as in a puppy cut.
However, it is important to note that not only does this take a lot of time and skill, but the results are often less uniform and aesthetically pleasing than if you use clippers with an attachment comb.
In addition, with both perimeter trimming and full clipping, you still need to trim sensitive areas such as soles of the feet and private areas.
For these sensitive areas, clippers are highly recommended for safety reasons.
